Path to Membership

Prospective members of our church are invited to take advantage of several opportunities to learn about what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist at the UU Church of Columbia.

  1. Help yourself to any of the brochures located in the greeting area. You will also find a great deal of information posted on the bulletin boards.
  2. Meet with Reverend Haney in his office after the service during visitor orientation on the second Sunday of each month.
  3. Attend a series of Discover UU sessions with Reverend Haney. Contact him directly to register, or see the church newsletter for information about dates and times.
  4. Attend a First Friends gathering on the fourth Sunday of the month to link up with an established member to learn more about church life. First Friends alternates monthly between 9:30 a.m breakfast meetings and 4:00 p.m. tea meetings. See the church newsletter, calendar, or Sunday morning announcements to learn more.

To join the church, one signs the membership book and makes a financial contribution to the church. Reverend Haney and a Board of Trustees member will witness your signature and welcome you officially to the Church. A Generosity Team member will contact you afterward about making a financial contribution.

At least once per year, new members are welcomed to the congregation during a New Member Ingathering held during a Sunday service. During this event, new members will be asked to come forward and you will be introduced to the congregation. Then we share the reading of our covenant together. You will also be welcomed with a New Member Celebration (a party).
