Sunday Services

Sanctuary

You can expect a friendly welcome at our church! You'll be greeted as you enter by Reverend Haney and a member of the Board of Trustees, invited to sign our guest book, offered a name tag, and directed toward our beautiful sanctuary. Dress is casual and comfortable and the church is centrally heated and cooled.

The service begins at 10:30 am and typically lasts close to an hour. Following the service, gathering occurs in the greeting area for fellowship over coffee, tea, or other beverages and light snacks.

Our services usually begin with a welcome and announcements. Newcomers and guests are invited to introduce themselves, but should not feel obligated to do so.

Interspersed with a variety of music and singing, the typical service includes the lighting of the chalice, an opportunity for expressing of joys and concerns (either spoken or in silence), a reading, an offertory, the homily, and the benediction.

Our regular church year is September through May. The third Sunday service of the month is lay led by a member of the congregation or an outside guest. The remaining services are led by our staff minister, Reverend Haney. The services continue during the summer months and are all lay led.

On the first Sunday of each month during the regular church year, all of the children join the adults in the sanctuary for the "story for all ages." While children are welcome to attend the service, most choose to take part in the Religious Education programming which occurs at the same time. Unitarian Universalist Religious Education is grounded in the Seven UU Principles. These principles are used to promote a sense of social justice and responsibility, tolerance, identity, and spiritual growth. Our purpose is to involve children in a religious community in which they develop a spiritual sense of themselves, their connection to others, and their connection to the world as a whole.

Our spacious and well equipped nursery is tended by paid staff and parent volunteers. The nursery is available for use free of charge during the services for children ages three and under.

The online calendar is regularly updated to reflect upcoming service topics and other church activities.
